A: As you vape more frequently, the effects your herbs have on your brain and body will decrease over time and you'll have to vape even more herbs just to feel the same!

Developing tolerance means it takes more of that substance to produce the same effect

Building a tolerance to your herbs is a pain but it can be particularly troublesome for those who vape for medical reasons. 

However, there is good news. A study in 2016 demonstrated that vapers and smokers begin to lose their tolerance after just two full days of complete abstinence.

 

Why do we become tolerance to our favourite things? 

When you expose your body to a particular substance, your body reacts by decreasing the activity or availability of the receptors that the substance reacts with. This is why you become tolerant to a variety of substances including caffeine, nicotine and alcohol. Due to the decrease in receptors, you'll have to consume more of the substance to feel the same way. 

There are over 120 different cannabinoids in the herbs that you vape and each of these affect the human body in different ways.

Some of these cannabinoids work by activating the CB1 receptor in the brain. It is the increased activity of your CB1 receptors that change the way you feel when you vape. Once the cannabinoids leave your system, your CB1 receptors resume usual activity and you'll usually feel normal again! 

The human body is amazing and is constantly hard at work maintaining homeostasis ( or balance). If we repeatedly overload our central nervous system with cannabinoids, the body responds by reducing CB1 receptors. This is why you become tolerant!

 

Does taking a break from vaping help?

Taking a break from vaping can be great to avoid building your tolerance. A study of daily smokers found that CB1 receptors began increasing after a 2-day break and increased to normal levels after just two weeks of abstinence.

The best thing about a tolerance break is that you're when you start vaping again it'll feel as great as your very first time!

Unfortunately, a tolerance break may not be practical if you vape for medical reasons. Luckily there are a few ways to avoid building tolerance in the first place!

 

2 ways to avoid building tolerance

Micro-dosing.

Micro-dosing is perhaps the easiest way to avoid building tolerance. Rather than vaping an entire chamber in one session, vape smaller amounts. All you need to do is take a few hits at a time and stop as soon as you feel your desired effect. The Dynavap is great for this!

 

Vaping CBD (or strains dominant in other cannabinoids)

Different cannabinoids interact with different parts of our endocannabinoid system. For example, CBD doesn't activate the CB1 system.
